The crisis in Greece almost makes you forget greatness and culinary history. To remedy such thing as a small bite of recall with the iconic recipe for Tzatziki. A real recipe for crisis inexpensive and very easy but immediately gives a festive air to the drink. So let's solidarity with the Greek, shake us belt sipping Tzatziki.
Tzatziki traditionnel
Prep: 10mins
Resting time: 10mins + 1h in fresh
For a bowl of tzatziki
- 1/2 cucumber (or 2/3 if it is not very large)
- 1 Greek yoghurt (about 150g)
- 1 garlic clove
- mint, tarragon or fresh dill
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- salt, pepper
Rinse the cucumber and grate it (do not peel). Make disgorge in a colander for 10 minutes then squeeze with paper towels to drain well.
Peel and crush garlic. Ciseler la menthe, l’estragon ou l’aneth. In a bowl, Mix the Greek yogurt, olive oil, chopped herbs and crushed garlic. Season to taste. Add drained cucumbers and let stand 1 hour in the fridge for the flavors to develop.
Serve chilled as an aperitif on blinis or Greek bread.
- Fines herbes: Choose the grass between your favorite mint, l’estragon ou l’aneth, I personally like to mix mint and dill in my tzatziki
– Greek yoghurt: You can choose 0% or. For a truly traditional taste, I recently found Total Greek yogurt brand Fage at Monoprix, Plus they have the good taste to be sold individually so no need to eat yogurt for Greek 5 days each time you make your tzatziki… ;-)

I am a big meal for 17 people on Sunday and I did not know what to put on my pancakes for an appetizer ! Your idea is top with tzatziki ! I note ;) thank you
Great for aperitifs!
Thank you for this recipe that reminds me of my childhood in Greece.
A short note to tell you that I tested your Tzatziki and I have published today by quoting your wonderful blog course !
It was delicious and I thank you for this recipe that I will ever ;)
@ Lee Yaa: Great that t 'has enjoyed! Thank you for the link and for your faithfulness to the blog ;-)
It's a pity that the Total Fage are not sold by kilos ! I would love to eat during 5 consecutive days without having to return to Monop’ every other day ! They are EXCELLENT (compact texture, taste…) ! Nothing to do with the horrors that sell major brands of yogurt using a French packaging “the Greek” !
Too good !!! A “catastrophe” this recipe ; I tested a little lonely WE (we had abandoned children!!) on my husband and since, I can not get out ; he loved it so much I need him again regularly. Happiness !!!Thank you for the pleasure of these recipes so tasty and so simple to make
Cuckoo! First of all your blog is great I love it but now I'm being forced knowing Greek and Greek cuisine on the fingertips ( we do not know better than when we saw eh …) here I can not … The traditional word has no place here that is not the traditional tzatziki sorry. Just a quick note anyway there are only compliments and I reiterate, your blog is great and I love your recipes ;) Thank you for all these ideas elsewhere. Go no hard feelings and good luck!!
@ Jean-Luc: totally agree with you the Total Fage have nothing to do with the other “Greek yogurt”! For my part I appreciate they are in individual pots because I do not eat much but I use them often in the kitchen, So I appreciate the conditioning.
Mamie @ Kiki: Oh you had me scared with your “catastrophe”!!! If it is that it has rained too, it is a good disaster while.
@ Scylla: Yet it is a Greek friend who really knows much food that gave me the recipe. But if you have a more traditional recipe, I would love that you give it to me :-)
So in the series real Greek yogurt I bought yesterday at Heratchian (Rue Montholon in Paris), 1kg Kolios the à 3,80 euros le kg. Approximately 3 or 4 times cheaper than Fage Total. Side texture is quite similar to Fage Total, side taste is quite dissimilar, rather salty and slightly acid. It goes with honey, but I can not eat it for me kind as I can sometimes do with Fage. By cons for your recipes in my opinion it goes quite well.
@ Jean-Luc: Thank you for the right plan! The question now is whether you really need to prepare 1kg Tzatziki ;-)
